For the past few weeks I have taken advantage of Stan Jones' offer to be on
the Anchorage Daily News email edition distrubution list. I sent Stan the
following note today that might confirm--or contradict--the impressions that
others on this list have.

Stan:

Thanks for providing the email edition of ADN for the past few weeks. I've
seen what I needed, so you can remove me from the distribuition.

What I got from this is that the listserv approach to news distribution is
great for  this stage in our electronic distribution development for specific
applications. 

--for folks away from home for any length of time and want to keep up  on
local news (college students, transplants, business travelers).

--as a means of keeping people involved in a community (such as making the
college newspaper available to alumni).

The Web is certainly more attractive, but at this time is still more
cumbersome for many people to access and certainly takes more work on the part
 of the info publisher. To get the basics as part of an email stream makes
alot of sense for some needs.
