I know this list gravitates around newspapers, but some folks may be
interested in a little TV news:

FOR RELEASE THURSDAY, APRIL 20

NORFOLK, Va. -- InfiNet L.C., a locally-based Internet access and
publishing company, has formed an alliance with CBS that will help the
network bring its more than 200 affiliate TV stations onto the Internet.
The alliance makes InfiNet the exclusive provider of Internet
services
for CBS, which in February became the first broadcast network to have a
full-service presence on the Internet's World Wide Web. CBS launched "CBS
Eye on the Net," an extensive informational and interactive site on Internet
that explores the network's entertainment, news and programming. Highlights
include the official Internet "homes" of the Late Show with David Letterman
and the Late Late Show with Tom Snyder, a photo gallery with pictures, video
and audio downloads, a viewers' forum and an online viewers' club
In addition, InfiNet will help CBS affiliate TV stations across the
country establish their own sites on the World Wide Web, including
setting up
"electronic newsrooms" and providing technical support.
The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon by George Schweitzer,
executive vice president of marketing and communications for CBS/Broadcast
Group, at the Interactive Marketing Conference in New Orleans.
"Working with InfiNet will enable CBS and its affiliates to
significantly increase our presence on the World Wide Web," Schweitzer said.
The CBS-InfiNet alliance stemmed in part from InfiNet's work in
developing "Las Vegas Online," a World Wide Web site for KLAS-TV, a CBS
affiliate in
Las Vegas. The KLAS site includes several daily feeds from Channel 8's
teleprompter scripts, programming information, tourism information about Las
Vegas, and other information. KLAS-TV is owned by Landmark Communications,
which also has an ownership interest in InfiNet.
"KLAS-TV has had a Web site on the Internet since late last
year. We
realize the tremendous opportunities such a project holds for our viewers,
our community, our news staff and our own operation," said Phil Pikelny, new
business development manager for the Las Vegas television station.
"We are thrilled that CBS has the confidence in our station and
our people
to give us such a leadership role in assisting other network affiliates that
want to set up their own Web sites. Local news and information plays an
important role in all forms of media. We look forward to working with other
CBS affiliates to set new standards for local news and information sites on
the Internet."
